Getting Rid of Cellulite for Good: The Cellfina Treatment

It’s no secret: one of the most common fitness goals is to get rid of cellulite. Although you can reduce the appearance of cellulite by eating healthy and losing weight, it’s not something that will fade in everyone. Many women feel embarrassed of their cellulite, despite it being a natural phenomenon that affects around 90% of women. If you are looking for treatments that can help reduce the appearance of cellulite, be careful to avoid the treatments with questionable efficacy. Schwarz Plastic Surgery is excited to announce the arrival of a proven cellulite solution: the Cellfina treatment. Before we delve into explaining the treatment, let’s first break down the cause of cellulite:

Unpacking Cellulite: What Is It?

Cellulite occurs when a layer of fat protrudes into the connective tissue just below the skin’s surface and creates bumps/dimpling of the skin. Cellulite is a normal secondary sex characteristic that affects 90% of women post-puberty, typically appearing on the thighs and pelvic area, and sometimes around the abdomen.

Unpacking Cellulite: What Causes Cellulite?

The exact cause of cellulite remains unknown, even to the best researchers. It seems to be a multifactorial condition, possibly due to estrogen dominance, lymphatic congestion, diet, lifestyle, and/or genetics. The reason most men do not have cellulite is that a dense layer of collagen called the fibrous septa, which connects skin to the underlying connective tissue, runs perpendicular in women, while running diagonally in men. This allows fat to protrude through women’s skin more easily.

A Proven Solution: How Does Cellfina Work?

Cellfina is the only minimally invasive cellulite treatment approved by Health Canada.
It treats the connective bands (fibrous septae) woven throughout the fat that pull down on the skin, creating that dimpling effect. Cellfina targets the connective bands using subcision (a minimally invasive cutting technique), causing these bands to release and allowing the skin to rebound, creating a much smoother appearance. In just one 45-minute treatment, Cellfina can significantly reduce the appearance of cellulite.

Treatment Details: What to Expect During and Post Treatment

During the procedure, the discomfort is described as mild to moderate. It takes about an hour for every 25 dimples. In terms of results, recent studies show that the appearance of cellulite improved in 98% of patients, with most results appearing within 6 months. The results should last at least 3 years (and often more), depending on physical activity, diet, and weight changes.

Right after the procedure, you may have some soreness and minor bruising in the treated areas, but this should go away within a few days. You will be able to drive home after the procedure, and can resume all regular physical activities within 24-48 hours. However, for optimal results you should avoid exercise for one week, while also avoiding swimming and sun exposure. It’s also recommended to wear compression garments regularly, such as yoga pants or bike shorts, as this will help with the swelling.

Is Cellfina for me?

Women with firmer skin and fewer dimples get the best results. If you have loose skin with a high concentration of dimples, then make sure to ask how effective the treatment will be, as results vary. In terms of the problem areas, the buttocks have the best results, with the back of the thighs and outer thighs being slightly less responsive, simply because of the difference in the composition of the skin within those areas.

The best way to find out what your results will be is to consult with a doctor that you trust.
